Motor vehicle accidents are one of the worst things that can happen to anyone. The whole experience lends itself to negativity and all the associated emotions that come with it. It is especially worse when there is a loss of life as it inflicts a lot of pain and sorrow on the family and friends of the deceased that most observers looking on can never relate to.
The Accident And The Seatbelt
I was involved in a terrible accident which resulted in the car being written off. Fortunately for me however(thanks to the real Big Man above), I was able to walk away from it without any injuries. This event highlighted to me the importance of car safety devices such as the seatbelt, for had I not been wearing my seatbelt, I probably would not be here telling you how important it is to wear your seatbelt! The experience also showed me how quickly your life can change from doing your normal everyday routine to the world literally turning upside down repeatedly, with the sound track of breaking glass, crushing metal and sparks as the car rolled and slid along the roadway. Praises to the Most High though as I was able to walk away from it scratch and bruise free and was able to pick up the pieces thrown from the car.
An Attitude of Gratitude
I am so grateful to be able to write this blog after experiencing such an event first hand and not cause my family to be in mourning and pain over my death. It really puts a new perspective on life and living, reminding me that we all live in the shadow of death and that the shadow can over take us at any second. Since my accident, a number of people have lost their lives tragically in accidents and their families are grieving right now. I would like to offer my condolences to them as my family could have easily been in their place.
Accidents On Social Media
This event also made me take note of people and their general insensitive attitude towards accidents. People are so quick to take pictures of accident scenes as well as seek to cast blame for the accident. While I was at the scene, the number of people that kept asking me if anybody had died (as opposed to if the occupants were okay) was unbelievable!!! I also noticed that the pictures of the accident are not all over social media (whew!). I’d hate to think that if I was still strapped up in the car and dead, that those pictures would be all over social media. Out of respect for the families of victims of fatal accidents, we need to stop plastering these pics all over social media for people to gawk at. We wouldn’t want our families to suffer even further with these images being posted all over the place. Don’t think this situation can never happen to you as you know not the time nor the day when the world will end. Until such time, stay safe and wear your seatbelt at all times!
